Prof. Sylvia Macauley has been at Truman since 1999. Sylvia received her doctorate and master's degrees in History at Howard University in Washington, DC. She holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Sierra Leone. She has contributed chapters to several books dealing with issues such as education, religion, health and gender in Africa. Prof. Macauley is a member of the African Studies Association, the American Historical Association, the World History Association, the Association of Concerned African Scholars (ACAS), the American Association of University Professors (AAUP), and the Mid-America Alliance for African Studies (MAAAS).
